As many people have never been to Belarus, or in some cases know where it is, I thought people might like to read about my experiences in Minsk and Gomel, as it gives you some idea of what to expect on our tour.

Like many of our clients, I have been searching for a Russian partner for some time, and have visited Estonia and now Belarus a number of times to meet various ladies. Belarus is an very interesting country, and one I very quickly grew to like.

Belarus is a strange country. It is a bit like stepping back in time, to twenty or thirty years ago. The infrastructure is poor by western standards. The government don't seem particularly interested in attracting tourists, as they require a visa and a letter of invitation. The quality and cost of the hotels also leaves a little to be desired.

Belarus has only one international airport, about twenty minutes from Minsk. I had been writing to a girl from the agency for a few months and had been invited to Belarus to meet her. I had originally planned on going to Gomel, but we changed our plans at the last moment and decided to stay in Minsk at Oksana's request.

Oksana met me at the airport, with Larisa, her cousin who was studying to be a translator. The thing that struck me first about both of them, especially Oksana, was how beautiful their eyes were. I though that if I got to date this girl, and we started to see each other, then it would really be quite something.

After declaring all the money I had (don't take more than $500 out of the country), and passing customs, we met each other, went outside to catch a taxi back to Minsk. After some negotiations, Larisa said the taxi would cost $10, and the bus $1, so we went for the taxi. I used the bus, when I returned from Minsk, and the taxi was by far the best choice.

The girls had rented an apartment for us in Minsk, which I paid for once we arrived and I was happy with it. That evening, we went out to try and see the theatre, but we were unable to get tickets because we arrived to late. We settled for the ballet, which was Swan Lake, a wonderful performance.

The second day, we spent in the Park (pictured above). They have small boats, for two people that can be hired for a few dollars. Unfortunately, the queue was quite long, so we decided to give it a miss and spent a few hours walking through the park, before stopping to have "Shashlik" for lunch. I guess this is best describe as kebab, but with real pieces of meat. I loved it.

Minsk Circus In the afternoon we went to see the circus. The circus in Minsk is quite unlike the one we have in the UK. It is a fixed structure, and various circus groups book the building. We were very lucky, in that they had the Moscow circus in town, so it was an excellent performance. We had to buy some tickets from outside the circus, as it was all sold out, but they were cheap enough by western standards.

I spent about four days in Minsk, in total with the two girls. Having Larisa there as a translator helped so much, although Oksana's English improved somewhat whilst I was there. I will be eternally grateful to Larisa for the help she gave us. Larisa is listed our site. She is a wonderful lady, and speaks perfect English. oksana I really did not want to leave Minsk, and, given the decision again, I would have stayed there. I had to return to the UK, so I left and had time to think about what I wanted to do next. I was really impressed with what I had found in Minsk, and in Belarussian girls. Never, in stark contrast to English or American girls, had I been asked about what type of car I had, how much I earned, how big a house I had. The girls were not interested, they wanted someone who would be a good father, someone who loved them, someone who treated them well. From that moment on, I knew I would end up marrying a Russian girl.
